What stress you'll must have endured

I'm so glad this story has a happy ending.

I want a rabbit bu we're not allowed to own them here in Brisbane.

Nearly the same thing happened to me some 20 years ago.
In a hurry to get to work, into my Torana I get. Half way down the street I notice my cat still sleeping on my bonnet

. Screeeeeeech went the brakes, did a U turn, drove back home - yes cat still on bonnet

shoved cat OFF and then lead footed the accelerator to work as now I'm running even later

I really am a cat lover, I really am.
Then a few years after that, I was reversing said Torana down the driveway, I heard my little King Charles Spaniel "YELP". "Uhhh-oooh that doesn't sound good". Now I'm already in hurry to pick child up from school- very young child at the time- I looked out- dog walks away. "Phew". So I kept going (betcha didn't see that coming did ya

), sped to pick up child from school and back home within 15mins to tend to said dog. Takes dog to vet. And here's the weird thing- it turns out my tire ran over his leg and I didn't break his bone but tore the tendon. Patched up the dog and he was fine. The vet told me "it happens all the time" - owners running over their dog and to not feel bad.

Okay so I'm not a dog lover I'll admit it, but I didn't do it on purpose, honest I didn't.
My family will never let me forget that story

but when you have a young child just starting school and crying everyday you take her to school and scared, I couldn't stress her out by being late, and I knew the dog could wait the 15 mins as he only walked away with a limp.
BTW- that silly dog never learned his lesson, he was back behind my car in no time at all. He used to like to chase the car out

and the only reason I hit him that time was because I oversteared the driveway and made a correction - which the dog hadn't accounted for.
P.S. Please, I beg you, no hate mail from animal lovers/lobbyists.
