M7 - Ptolemy's Cluster in Scorpius

Morning guys

Filthy weather, so I dug out some shots from winter 2011:

M7 - Ptolemy's Cluster in Scorpius
  • Losmandy G11-G2
  • Takahashi Sky90 w' reducer / flattener
  • QHY8 Pro @ -20
  • 38 x 300s, no darks, bias and flats applied (my first application of flats in fact)
  • Captured with Maxim, processed with CS5
Small version attached. Doesn't look so good.

Larger file here (click 'View Original' and zoom by clicking anywhere within image): https://skydrive.live.com/redir.aspx...N8hP5v-VBz79Q0

Enjoy,

Logie

Ah always a treat to see out of season objects, another benefit of reprocessing

Thanks guys. The larger pic is worth a quick look

If you've followed the Losmandy Gemini-2 beta progress, you'd know that a) finding objects with goto and b) long exposure guiding are no small miracles... I've been a patient beta user for months now.

Its a very nice image. I think there are a few small steps that could improve it though. Its got a bit of excess green in it. Try downloading HLVG from Rogelio Andrea for Photoshop plugin and it will probably enhance it. It needs a bit of cropping as there are stacking artifacts on the right side.

The golden glow of these stars could be enhanced a bit more to bring out that wonderful golden glow some of these images show. Louie has a good tutorial on how to enrich that side of the image.

A great image with more potential.

Greg.

Logie,

That's a great image. I never ceased to be amazed at the star density.
