H-Alpha Sun & Proms 12/1/12

Hi All

Got a small window of opportunity to get some imaging in last Thursday morning before the strong winds kicked in again. Several connected proms made a nice view and a neat fantail prom on the far right of the disk.

Seeing conditions started to deteriorate midway in the imaging, so the detail is a bit iffy and inconsistent on one side of the disk as this is a two panel mosaic.

Using LS8OTha and DMK41 with 2X barlow. Hope you like it.

Thanks guys. Even I keep thinking whether I should have spent the money and got the bigger LS100Tha? Although the LS80Tha is so portable and can easily be run on a manfrotto. Maybe down the track

Thanks Derek. A "little bit" is as good as it gets lately. Yesterday I was reduced to trying to gets some solar imaging done at 5.30pm in between the clouds!

Thanks Matt. Yes it came up well after I hit the data with some heavy duty image crunching.

Top shelf stuff Ted, I'd worry about the seeing well before another 20mm of aperture.

Are you recording the surface and proms with the one exposure?
I usually have to use different exposures for the surface (1/80s) and longer exposures (1/11s) for the proms with my double stack SM60..

Thanks Peter, you are probably right. I am no where near maximing out the 80mm.

Hi, no I used a two exposure composite for each of 2 panels for the mosaic. At this stage I am tending to stick with single stack as it minimises the uneveness in exposure for the sun surface. Thanks.
