Rosella - FD lens on EOS camera

Hi, i took this photo on a Tokina Prime 200 mm FD lens using an adapter to my EOS Canon 1000D camera. Still trying to get good results for astro stuff, but the terrestial stuff is OK. I may have over enhanced it a bit, still practicing with image processing.
Any advice or comments are welcolm.
He comes down for his breakfast at 8 and his dinner at 7.

A very nice photo of an obviously happy bird!

On my screen, it looks like the seed block is more sharply in focus that the bird – does that lens/body combo allow auto focus? If so, try to lock focus on the bird, as that is the main subject.

Although the wooden fence in the background is slightly blurred due to the aperture used, despite its plainer colour it still draws some attention away from the bird.

If you were able to open up the aperture to get a shallower depth of focus, then the details in the fence would be les conspicuous and I think the bird would “pop” more in the frame.

Alternatively, try changing your shooting position and to get a more even toned and less distracting background.

It must be quite nice to have such a regular character turn up at the feeder!

The lens does not connect electronically with the camera, its off my old AE1, so i have to set the focus before the bird arrives. I had expected that if the feedblock was in focus the bird would be !. I then remotely expose from inside the house. I am shooting at ISO400, F8 in the hope i would get enough depth of field, but yeah it still is a bit out. I am going to move the feedblock to try and get the shots against the sky background. Thanks for the comments all are relavent and correct.
