Orion - just to be different!

Orion wide field. 60 minutes - needs lots more data - some interesting filters. Test shot with the Astrodon Inside filter mod. No cooling due bench testing.

EDIT: I have just noticed that the image here is missing lots of detail, it's darker and not that representative of the one I'm looking at on my 22" monitor.

Nice one Roland, getting quite deep too. Good detail on the micro horsie.

Great FOV, Rowland! Should be very nice with additional data.

Cheers,
Rick.

I love that wide-view shot. Nicely done. Like Steve, I'm curious what equip you used for this?

Canon 1000D modified with replacement Astrodon Inside filter, replacing the IR cut filter, 200mm prime lens, f5.6, ISO800, 180 secs, unguided. 3.5 - 4 mins would better. Calibration frames.

One of my all time favourites. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was at 200mm. Framing is tight with this lense but you have done well.

Keep at this one Rowland. Btw, check out Humayun's (Octane) image on this same target taken a while back with a 40D and 200mm from memory. It is one of the classics imo.

Darrin...

Great stuff rchesire.

But tell me...that was 180seconds single frame shot and unguided....not even a scotch mount?

if thats the case why did I get a scope...that shot is fantastic

would or should I say do you need a modded camera to get an image ie colours etc, like that?

Really love that one Rowland. Ticks all the boxes!

More worthy of the Deep Space section to be honest.

Thank you all - it was a test run.

@eskimo - An EQM. But I would love to do the same with a Scotch mount. To get the detail a modified camera is preferable, if not essential, otherwise hours of imaging, which may not be adequate in any case.

Thanks Ivo. Perhaps with twice the data, I might be tempted to post in Deep Space. Next to work on aperture rings to avoid those iris diffraction spikes.
