Tarantula - tracking problems?

Hi all,

the image below is a 10min sub using my ED80, EQ5 and dslr. I'm wondering if the star trailling is more likely to be a tracking issue or poor polar alignment? It doesn't seem to be too evident in the 5min subs. Maybe there's enough data in those to process?

Any advice greatly appreciated.

Many thanks and Happy New Year

niko

Hi, Niko.

I pulled your image into guide 7 and orientated it. Hope you don't mind.

I placed direction arrows on your image. I t appears to be drifting slightly in both directions, which I geuss means a little more polar alignment, and guiding in R.A.

Hopes this helps.

Justin.

Niko did you do a drift align before shooting?
Make it so that the star stays still for at least 5 minutes.
This will make it easier to find if it is the tracking doing this.

Thanks guys. The clouds and moon have now conspired against me to get much more data.

I'll have a go at processing once I leave this beach house which has walls of windows and no blinds - can't see the laptop screen during the days so just have to lie around the pool or go to the beach!

Rally pleased to have set it all up at least as well as I have. Daniel might even be out of a job at the next Snake Valley!

Thanks again for the comments and encouragement

Guiding?

Hi Niko

With that image are you guiding? If so I agree that the polar alignment may need to be improved.

If you are not guiding and only tracking with the HEQ5, 10 minute subs is an excellent achievement.

I only thought the focus may need to be a bit better.

Regards Paul.

When I was imaging this region after using my guider to drift align I would get trailing like shown here. I cleared it up by recalibrating in phd, I did require to tell phd to calibrate for longer because the closer to the CSP the less the image will move after a guide pulse.
