first light

Hi all

Just thought I'd share my first pics. My scope is a Celestron Astromaster 70eq. Camera, Phillips SPC900. Prime focus.

The image of the moon is actually a painstakingly comprised mosaic of about 8 or 9 seperate images. I don't have a focal reducer but i'm happy with the result since it is more detailed this way anyway and it's hard to see the individual tiles.

Jupiter was taken with a 2X barlow and stacked, probably under 100 frames sampled. Having never used registax before I dont know if the resulting image could be improved much, I basically accepted all defaults and stacked. The blue glow around the edges is a result of me messing with hue and saturation in PS afterwards, but by 3am that looked pretty good to me so that's the way it stayed.

Just thought I'd share.

Hi Micah,

Welcome to IIS!
These images are actually pretty darn good for a fairly basic scope.
Hope you caught the bug now and we'll see more of you here - well done!

Cheers,
