M1 Xmas Miracle.

It's a double Xmas Miracle. The clouds cleared last night and I was sober enough to turn the scope on

I got 8 x 10minutes subs for each S2:Ha:O3 all binned X2 and 3 X 2minute subs for R:G:B also binned X2.

Still a bit noisey and guiding was playing up but fresh data and a clear sky makes a change

GSO RC8 + QHY9 + off axis guided.

I'd had enough drinks that setting wasn't a good idea but not so many that I was tempted to do it anyway, so I just sat under the stars with my eldest lad (home for Christmas from Germany) and chatted and had another beer or two...

Glad to hear you took advantage of the clear skies, Robin. Nice colours!

Cheers,
Rick.

Nice capture Robin, looks great. Went looking for "Lovejoy" last night, great skies but the skyglow from Southport made it impossible.

Lets hope the weather holds for the rest of the week, would like a trip to some dark skies

Robin, it looks as if your cat has been playing with balls of colored wool. Interesting image.

It sure looks a great image to me.
I have tried looking at it visually and it is a very dismal object.

Cheers Kev.

Robin,

I love this image of M1!

When we got home from the in-laws Christmas night I too had noted the clear skies - unfortunately I was nowhere near sober enough to set up my scope!

I'd love to give M1 a go but it sits above the Brisbane CBD for me so it's a no-go for me.

Well done,

Cheers,
Mario

I found a little more data from last year that I'll try and blend in later to smooth it out a bit.

Are you out of town again Geoff? I heard they had a 7meter swell off shore from that cyclone so I imagine the weather will get worse not better

Cheers Guys, That's basically as it comes using Hubble Palette. I used a bit of selective colour to try and change the greens a bit. There's plenty of signal in all 3 channels to play with.

The RGB image is pretty ordinary too Kev. The one I attached here is only 3 x 2 minute subs each RGB with a bit of sharpening so it doesn't look like a tiny red smudge Maybe deeper exposures would show more, but I doubt it.

I shoot over the refinery to the north of here Mario, but it looks like they have shut off the eternal flame over xmas. Normally objects north of me are covered in random gradients

The usual December cyclone is cruising down the coast Mike, but out to sea a bit this time. I didn't expect to see any stars till mid January, yet the clouds parted again last night. I was in no state to do anything about it

Robin after the bbq was finished there wasn't much left over of the in total 10Kg of mixed meat and the rest of the goodies.
They were like a pack of hungry wolves
It looked more like gate crashers instead of family
