Considering CCD now.

Hi all,

After much hemming and hawing im going to look into a getting a good "cooled" CCD. Budget around 2 grand maybe more. I currently have a canon 550d, which dose take "reasonable" pictures of our beautiful universe. Unfortunately the astro bug has more than got me more than ever and its time to bite the bullet, but o dear where to start. Keeping the same sensor size would be very expensive (18mp) so im thinking this would be a nice jump, http://www.optcorp.com/product.aspx?...320-1116-13997 SBIG ST-8300C.

I'm using it on a 8" newton @ f/5 so if theres any sweet spot ccd wise for this kind of TS @ prime focus, recommendations are greatly appreciated.

Regards,
Dan

Also reading with interest.

The QHY10 seems to be gathering very positive notes for its price.

Good luck Dan which ever way you go!! (and please let us know your experience from DLSR to CCD)

Thanks Darrin, ill be sure to share my experience in comparison to the DSLR. The QHY10 looks like a winner as well, nice specs. Theirs no doubt in my mind that im in this for life, I enjoy astrophotography that much. Do I get a monochrome CCD with filter wheel big thing to say but, I want this CCD to be the one I keep for a long time coming.
