Email scam "your credit card has been"...

Just to let everyone know, I've had 30 of these emails since 7.30am this morning.

Senders names vary but have included:

Aafgd, Aleksashin Gennady, Gennady and Arabov Gennady.

Subject comes up "your credit card has been" ...

Contents of the emails are all identical.

Dear client,

You have placed an order on http://www. emailaddressmanager.com/ on
2011-09-16
(order reference number: #1456), order processed by Avangate ,the merchant operating
http://www. emailaddressmanager.com/, order paid with Credit/Debit card.

Your Credit / Debit card has been successfully charged.

Your licence and order information can be viewed by downloading the following PDF file :
http://www.emailaddressmanager.com/c...56/invoice.pdf

Thank you for choosing AvanGate.

Best regards,
Avangate Support Team
http://www.avangate.com

a quick search on google for 'avangate' revealed this...

We identified via our Support center that some people were asking about an unknown “charge” in their Paypal from Avangate. It seems they received a deceitful email trying to trick them into giving away their PayPal information.

The email came from a yahoo.com address acting as the “Fraud Department” of PayPal and contained a false notification that Avangate BV charged their accounts and a link “Click HERE TO REFUND“, leading them to a forged to look like PayPal website.

Phishing Attempt PayPal / Avangate BV
The fake website has already been banned (reported for web forgery).

When you receive PayPal phishing attempt you can report it to spoof@paypal.com and also delete it from your inbox.

To make sure you are never the victim of a phishing attack, always check the URL and the security elements like HTTPS before entering login information to any website.

If you want to further prepare for coping with phishing emails, we recommend reading on the PayPal website about ways to recognize fake emails.

nasty business indeed, but worth taking note if you use eBay/Paypal!!

There's an increase of these around the festivities. I also get a lot of people ringing the bell saying they're from the power company trying to sign you and switch you over. They're getting real good now. They present themselves as from YOUR power company and start telling you the whole street has changed to 'the new billing system' and that you have to act quickly not to be left on your own basically, even default on your next bill. The guy confused the hell out of me. When he asked me to see my bill I told him to come back and talk to SWMBO then rang the power company. Another scam. But so believable. Badges, invoice headers, the whole lot. That's gotta be illegal too.

Yep, I had one, of "eastern" persuasion, turn up to my door a few days ago too. Told him to right-royally PO.

Likewise, had one of the door to door chaps come around and after politely asking him to take a hike, same guy comes around two hours later - not sure if he'd forgotten which doors he'd visited or maybe trying another household member

I got the Dreaded Call from the Computer Service Dept the other night. Nice lady called 'Nancy' (Yeah Right !!) said my computer had a virus problem.
I impolitely suggested she travelled in search of fornication .... but I only used two short words....
Then I went back to my glass of red wine.

If you aren't in any hurry to get them off the line you could say you need to go to the other phone and just leave it off hook. It's their time you are wasting.
