I hope you all took a holiday for my birthday
Thank you everyone - your kind greetings are much appreciated. At
(56- shush) years old, I try not to think too much about the passing years
Sorry I'm only just seeing this - well not sorry really - I did an all-nighter with the scope. Had a bunch of newbies with me until they faded at 11pm! They were blown away by the usual - Jupiter, Orion Nebula, 47 Tuc, and the old favourite for younger people - Betelgeuse!

Then they went home to find proper toilets, get away from the dew and the mossies. They don't know what they are missing, do they! Then a nice solitary night - just noisy possums and low-flying fruit bats for company. Seeing was brilliant but transparency was yuck with haze and cloud. Chased sucker holes all night, but when it was clear, the air was very steady and the views were delightful. Set up the camera for Comet Lovejoy - guess where the cloud settled until the sun rose!
