Another M42

Folks,
I'd thought I'd share this image of M42 taken by myself and parner in crime, Charlie. It was taken last Saturday Night (17th).

It's a composite of 20x 30 sec, 10x 60 sec and 10x 300 sec at -15 deg using my QHY8L with no darks, flats or bias frames.

You'd benefit from flat fielding but it's really very nicely done. Good one.

Very well done, just watch out and lighten the background a bit less because it gets a bit noisy when overstretched

Well done Paul, it's a really good image which shows you have the basics down. You just have to move down the path of flats, darks, biases etc and your images will sparkle.
Keep at it.

The blending looks pretty good Paul. Stars look sharp.

A bit more contrast to punch the image a bit would be worth it.

Thanks Martin, I think I did push the processing a bit more than needed, I was trying to squeeze the last drop of nebula out, I will continue to fiddle with it until the next clear night. Paul

The flats, darks and bias are hovering around my head and they follow me, you are so right this will happen soon. Paul

Thanks Ross, As mentioned to Marc, this was a test shot after the issues I've had with the optical train, it's always good to pull something almost decent from bad. Paul

Thanks Marc, I have been trying to get the distance right with this MPCC and I'm thinking I'm close? After all of the problems of the past with the funny shaped stars etc I think I am moving in the right direction. And it's always back to the drawing board.

You field is great as it is. I meant using flats so you don't have vignetting and gradients. Just calibration issues now. Your data acquisition is superb so you've got that nailed. Don't touch a thing.

Great job guys, I agree with Darrin, the stars are nice and tight and a little bit more contrast might improve things.
