The first images with a ccd...after dslr

Hello everyone

It 's been a while from the last few images because of work commitments, but the beauty of the Forum is to see beautiful images even when you are unable to do anything!

After a few years that I use the dslr, I decided to go to CCD. Since I have two setups (Newton and RC) I still have to figure out how to optimize everything. In particular I am trying with the help off-axis, both on the rc Newtons. I made these images also trying to use Ha. I must say that the first thing that struck me is the extreme sensitivity with respect to Ha ll'ha with dslr. However, these are my first tests

The SH2-132 and the bubbles were made from the roof of a building in Rome, while the 2403 and m71 with a good sky. There is still much to be done, however I like to share with you!

Bye,
Fabiomax

Great collection Fabiomassimo, I really like M71 and NGC 2403 is quite nice too, lovely colours, enjoyed the views. Looks like you have been travelling around to take these images?

You're off to a great start.

I like the last 2 particularly. You have nice star colours. The first 2 the stars are mostly all white. Was that processing or difficulty in getting the data?

You might want to keep an eye on that as one major difference between DSLR and CCD. Often DSLR images seem to have trouble getting star colours whilst it is easier with CCD. I am not sure why that is unless DSLR star images tend to be oversaturated due to heavy gain settings (ISO).

Greg.

Thanks Strongmike, Jarryds, Gregbradley:
Yes, to have a good sky I must move from the city (Rome). Consider who are the first tests and I have to understund when to use BIN1, BIN2 .... understand the sampling, the use of very different ratios f, ie, f4, 8 and f8. With dslr now I knew how to handle time expositions and with dsrl there was no binning. With the CCD I have to understand all over again. The question of color with the dslr is complicated. In my opinion, the dsrl works well with short f, as for Newton's very open. With less time (lower noise) can be set lower ISO (eg 400 with the old rebel 350d) and increases the dynamics and thus the ability to manage the noise. The processing is quite different. Thanks for having seen the pictures and comments!!

Hi Fabiomassimo

I like your images also, I have started using a ccd camera (colour) and it has been quite a learning curve compared to dslr cameras but you seem to have it all under control

cheers

Thank you,
actually I have to understand when working in BIN1 and BIN2 and various exposure times. It will take a while but I learn from your pictures!
Cheers,
Fabiomax
