12.02 am Eclipse 11-12-2011

Well the weather was not good last night, looking at the BOM radar around 7 pm it appeared some hail and nasty storms around near Kilcoy,we could feel the ice cold wind blowing up the range.I dismissed the thought of even seeing the eclipse.

Watched a movie, came out around 11.30 pm-there looked a chance it could clear briefly,so started from scratch getting everything ready.Rolled the roof of observatory, and had a few image attempts between the rolling cloud.

Not sure,if the moon ended up been totally dark,12.02 from my location seemed the darkest, but the clouds came so not sure.I did manage to capture a
'star rise' (see close up).

Images taken using a Vixen 103 ED refractor,on a GPD2 mount,a Canon 50D settings around 1.6 sec exp and iso 400.Little PP,mainly levels and a crop.

Hope these are of interest. Thanks for looking-Cheers Chris

Very nice Chris.

I looked outside at 10:30 last night to see the sky had almost completely cleared. Unfortunately I was to buggered to setup - 60+hr week...

Will try again in 2014!

Beautiful! I really wish I had my scope+mount set up for it, but I'm just happy we had enough of a reprieve in SE QLD to shoot any photos at all

Thanks Dave and all.

Really did not expect anything from this eclipse,so a real bonus.Finally-a result from all my investment in a 'combat ready' observatory, just attached camera, switch some power on,and rolled the roof off-and away!

First time I really used my external power supply for 50D,(Thanks Brendan)Really just so good not to have to worry about battery
power.Makes things all that little bit easier.

Hope you get a chance to have a long sleep DT,that's a heavy work load there, and all the concentration that goes along with that job,you would certainly need a good sleep.

Still not sure what time was max eclipse.

cheers Chris

Thanks Jarryd-yes a few stars around the moon was a great extra!

I ended up with a sequence of images,of that star appearing,so I will post
those images after I have processed them and cropped in close.

It was enjoyable to get out and use some gear,at long last.
