if power isn't a concern and you don't care about it running absolutely flat out no a controller isn't a issue if you want to make sure its running efficiently then thats a different call!

Thanks Brendan,

I also just read that its probably nesesary if i dont want to create convection curents due to lack of control over the heater strip and it drawing as much current as it wants and heating the corector more than nesesary. I think a controller is in order!

I read at sctscopes.net that A controller with a closed-loop-regulated power supply, such as the DewBuster Controller has a better ability to keep the corrector as cool as possible yet above the dew point and use less power, than a pulse-modulated controller like the Kendrick controller. Is this being too picky or do the Kendrick controlers do a pretty good job?

Thanks
josh

I use a Kendrick Digifire 7 on the 12" newt and have no probs whatsoever with it. set it at 30% for the eyepieces and 10% for the secondary and never had a prob.
