Inspired by John Hothersall's image of this galaxy a few weeks ago, I decided to sink some time into it tonight.

Here is 20 5 minute subs at iso 800. Im not sure that it does Johns image justice but I am enjoying doing the best that I can with my dslr till I buy a CCD.

That result still shows the galaxy shape well with some colour too, a CCD will be a great move. Got a few background galaxies, nice ones in the top right.

John.

Thanks guys, with the weather warming up im seeing the noise come out in the dslr. Still getting the hang of processing and all the new software is keeping me busy.

Both of your images are a joy to look at and I one day hope to match their quality

I wondered how big this would be in a Newt Peter, have never had a go at it. That's got some nice detail and colour coming through. Galaxies are never easy. Top shot! I think it could stand a bit more colour saturation (perhaps masked, if noise starts to come up)

Well done for getting the detail with a DSLR. Certainly got a few other distant members in there too.
