Thumbs up Travelling for the night

Amateur astronomers travel to distant and remote locations to find magical dark skies – a place where they can observe and photograph the night sky in all its beauty.

My IceInSpace friends Chris (Omaroo, from South Sydney) and Jeanette (jjjnettie, from Queensland) travelled to Lostock Scout Camp for the dark skies at IISAC2011 star party. Chris’ landrover and Jeanette’s little sedan feature in this star trails image taken at IISAC2011. The red lights from their headlamps can be seen tracking back and forth to their cars, no doubt for supplies such as camera gear, chocolate and beer

Taken with my Canon 40D and a borrowed 15mm Canon f/2.8 fisheye lens. An hours worth of exposure @ ISO1600, f/2.8, 30s exposures stacked in StarStax.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the comments, guys.

I had about another 30+ minutes of data to add to it, but the lens fogged up. Those fisheye lenses with their big bulbous eyes

Very nice, looks like maybe friday night? its interesting that the light cloud that was so frustrating for a while for the telescope shooters adds a nice background for the stars in a time exposure.........well done

Thanks Brad and Leo.

And yes Brad, it was taken on the Friday night. The cloud on Friday was frustrating for astrophotographers, but good enough for observing, and great for timelapse

I like the way that you've managed to capture some high cloud in there which adds another dimension to just having a trail of stars Mike. I think this has added in a very positive way to the image. You've given me some ideas!!

There's a lot going on in there!!

Cheers,
Darrin...
