So, I was flicking through my old astronomy magazines the other day (as you do) and came across this article for a DIY 'tracking' camera platform for widefield astrophotography (see attached photo).
Anyone ever made one of these, or seen one in action?
I dont have a GEM at the moment, and this looks like a fun and fairly easy DIY project.
Stepper motor with controller from Jaycar, and a few bits and pieces from the local hardware store. For widefield shots with my 50mm fixed lens, i'm thinking it has to provide some improvement over a fixed tripod. And its something to play with while I work on getting a second scope and mount for astrophotography.
( I'd like a second scope, my wife would like us to buy a piano instead. "What do you need a *second* telescope for? You just bought that one!..." Looks like we'll need to save a bit so we can have both...
