The Smoking Sword

Well the weather gods smilled on me and after 4 months on the imaging wagon ....I had a perfectly clear still night here in Newcastle with reasonable seeing THANK GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So YEP! not a repro, not a hybrid image...this is an all new image

Anyway, I did several hours Ha and OIII on Orion's Sword with the intention of compiling a new way-out there version ...but I also collected 10min each or RGB (5 X 2min) just for the stars....I was so surprised at the amount of nebula obtained in just 10min each of RGB under atrocious light pollution that I thought I'd post it

The Smoking Sword

The power of aperture and speeeeed

here is a deeper Hybrid HaOIIIRGB in true colour Smoking Orions Sword

Mike

Cool huh guys? it was the speed of data capture that turned me to the F3.8 AG12 - even last night I didn't have enough time to get everything that I wanted but as you can see even a few minutes with 12" at F3.8 sucks it in

Fantastic Mike, that's a serious signal for such short exposures! Very impressive, now your scope is all ready to rock

Gee whiz that is amazing for only 30 minutes. I thought I was missing something when I read 10:10:10. Holy cow. Imagine what 3 hours would look like.

It all looks fantastic.

Welcome back to imaging Mike.

Greg.

Can't imagine what the deep one will be like, I think you and the scope make great music.

Well I tried combining the OIII and Ha into a bi colour narrowband image ala Marco Lorenzi but try as I might I couldn't get anything I liked might try again another day if I get some SII...

So...instead, I combined the 1hr of Ha and 1hr of OIII into a luminace layer and compiled a hybrid true colour LRGB instead

Here it is

Smoking Orion's Sword

Not exactly what I had imagined I was going to do with the data but I hope you like it none the less

Mike
