Afocal jupiter shots

Hi everyone,

I am not a very avid astrophotographer but I do enjoy photographing the moon and planets.

heres my attempt at jupiter last night 18/11/11 with Io transiting jupiter it was quite a show.

I know my shots are very bad compared to the proffesionals but it was still fun taking them.

Thanks for viewing

Great work to start with , I know how hard it is to get a great image with limited equipment and conditions.

Orestis,

Those are good shots, especially the second one.

You are modest, which is a good attitude, but those shots are pretty much the limits of what your equipment is capable of, so I think they are impressive.

Keep up the good work.

Those are very nice shots, I would like to know what camera and scope you are using as i am doing afocal as well but with my f5 scope it makes life hard as the disc can be abit to bright.

err nervermind i see what scope you have must learn to read all of the post

Graeme.

hi Graeme,

The scope used was my GSO 12'' f5 dob and the eyepiece was a 6mm Tmb planetary with 2x barlow.

I don't have a DSLR so i used my everyday panasonic lumix digital camera with 3x zoom which i employed to get a bigger disc.Because it is a simple point and shoot camera it has only one adjustment for exposure.-2,-1,1,2 settings, i put it on -2 as my scope produced a bright image and it was overexposed on the camera.

Thanks
Regards Orestis
Ps-what scope and camera setup do you have?

Hi Orestis
Sorry for the late reply, i came down with the flu and have not been around much, My scope is only a 6" vixen f5 and my camera is a Sony Cybershot 14.1, the scope is the problem f5 just makes things to bright, i have been getting better results of late but still not worth posting and have a guy who is guiding me through afocal shots he produces some very nice work, Have a look at his $50 camera shot with an 8".

Cheers

Graeme

Loves that you are doing Afocal planetary imaging.

I started off imaging with my 10" dob and an old Panasonic Video camera.
12.5mm ep and 2x barlow. The camera itself had 17x optical zoom.
Here's my offering. I couldn't for the life of me get any colour from my images. Took months to learn how.
