Honking big ladder.

Hi All, I need to get up to the eaves at the rear of this 2 story house which I measure at 8 meters tall. I'm guessing I'll need a 9 meter extension ladder. Is there such a thing? I had a look on ebay and long ones there are around the 5 meter mark which I already have? It's a one off job, so a rental will be the go I guess, if they exist.

Kennards and Active Hire list extension ladders to 10.9m. They have 8.8 or 8.9m ones but I wouldn't use one to get to 8m - too bouncy.

When I was a linesman, we regularly used 32fters while on the 11kV lines. Bloody heavy wooden ones but they weren't bouncy. Alternatively, you could make your own, like these chaps.

+1 make sure your life insurance is paid up first

my silly ex would stand (!) on the roof of their work van (!!) to reach above head height, because he felt that setting up and relocating ladders was too much hard work

i'd have been a very rich young widow

I was thinking of something similar this arvo

Can't get any sort of lifter in there, some idiot dug a pool a meter from the house or I should say the council made them move it that close

You will need a 10m ladder.

You do realise that, according to Workcover NSW, a 1 in 4 slope (about 75 deg) on the ladder is around as steep as you can use safely?

That puts you 2m off the house (or 2m from the eave if any).

If there is only 1m of space were you planning on putting the foot of the ladder in the pool?

I'd suggest some rope stays to the base and / or the sides. Control the bounce and movements.

How about a 40meter tower held up with nylon rope Trev

I spent quite a few years climbing these things and hanging by my knees
