canon 450d noise reduction settings

Hi,
i have had real problems getting detail out of my stacked images in DSS. after trying many ideas i was told today that the following settings in my canon450d are wrong. I should now turn off long exposure noise reduction settings and turn off high iso speed noise reduction settings.
I have had one reply on SGL that someone wasted months trying with those settings on and has now turned them off and results are much better.
i am waiting for a clear night to test this out. I am wondering if anyone else has had this problem.
Philip

If you take a set of "dark frames" (with identical exposure settings to your "light frames" - i.e. actual photos) and import them into DSS along with your light frames, then you don't need to use the in camera noise reduction features. You can use the time you save to take more subs.

As for problems getting detail, perhaps you could post a few examples of your unprocessed frames straight out of camera, and the DSS output image you get?

Canon problems

When DSS raw images from canon are stacked they are usually really dark anyway, you need to export them into a programme like StarTools or PS so you can screen stretch them to see the data first. Using luma and sat in DSS sometimes doesn't make a big difference.
