New Camera from Celestron

Looks like new camera from Celestron to try make it easier for beginners.
Looks like good match for Hyperstar too:

With specs and a price like that I foresee a glut of secondhand cameras on the market. Anything that makes the process easier and better just has to be good.

I don't know whats so "easy" or "different" its a OSC TEC camera. they have their own propritry software which gives you a little bit of image capture for dummies, but then again nebulosity is about as easy as it comes!

a qhy9 OSC is 1600 dollars now and the mono with filters not much more with the famed kodak 8300 sensor. If that doesn't float your boat then the QHY10 is right up there too.

Don't be fooled by great marketing techniques from the marketing dept at celestron and unless this camera comes in under 1000 dollars there is nothing different apart from pretty colours and plastic cases and probably less than optimal TEC...!

Brendan.

EDIT: OPT sell them for 1500 dollars +P&H..... qhy9 1650, to be honest most beginners don't have access to big illuminated realestate... large sensors will be more difficult

It certainly looks the part and the specs are good. More a DSI counterpart perhaps?
Can't wait to see some reviews and images on some US sites soon.

Not really a good camera as the tec cooling only goes to 20 degrees c below ambient. Just slick enough to capture a few of the easy targets

most astro CCD's are a minimum of 40 most are pulling upto 60 now with double stack and triple stack peltiers. and at 2.5amp per hour draw. thats narly! my qhy in full bloom is about 1.5.

Just on those specs alone the cooling and power consumption at the same price as other CCDs makes this a good gimmik
