#2 is very nice,lovely soothing feel about it.Did you use a 'star filter'-the lights have many diffraction spikes around them.Apparently these 'star filters' come in many version-re number of spikes-I bought a couple but never used them much.

What gear and settings used,Mike?

I didn't use a star filter, just stopped down the f/ratio to f/16 which causes diffraction spikes on the lights.

I used a Canon 40D.
Photo 1: 24-105mm lens @28mm, f/4.5, 0.4s exposure @ ISO400
Photo 2: Sigma 17-70mm lens @ 17mm, f/16.0, 6s exposure @ ISO500.
Photo 3: Sigma 17-70mm lens @17mm, f/8, 3.2s exposure @ ISO500

#2 is very nice Mike. I like seeing Crux and Scorpius in the 3rd, but the depth of colour in #2 is beautiful.

#2 is very nice Mike - excellent shot (not that #1 or #3 are bad in any way). Really nice colours, spot on exposure.

Thanks Mike! I haven't done much astro in the past year, and have recently hurt my left shoulder, so no carting the heavy EQ6 pro mount for me for some time still.

I've been busy with another hobby of my - Hi Fi, so no money spent on astro stuff. I have enough gear, just need to get better @ using it. Since I'm not sure on how long it'll take before my left shoulder is back to normal, I'm not sure when I'll be back into astro and hopefully, imaging.

I'm very impressed with your Sydney images - makes me want to be back in Sydney...

Thanks again. I had a good month in May - motivation was high at the time.

I'm itching to get out again, it's just such a shame it takes so long to get around to processing and posting the images. So much to do and so little time.

I need a 5DM2 to give me more motivation!

Ahh a 5D Mark II! Very nice camera, reasonably priced, you know you want one ;-)
