First Light GSO RC-10 CF

I have been having massive amounts of trouble Collimating my scope and Grahame came over to give me a hand. We were more concerned with Star testing than anything so after achieving what we thought was a reasonable result, I turned to scope on NGC 253 (nice easy target nearer zenith!) This is the result

Problems are that the polar alignment was quick and very dirty! I was also only using my Canon D1000 DSLR not my QHY10. anyway this was only
3 X 300 seconds with Darks applied no flats. Nowhere near enough to get a great picture but enough to give me great hope for future pics when done right!

all the best

Paul

Hi Paul, Not to shabby at all. Great for the limitted subs you managed.
Colimation doesn't look to bad at this stage.

Thanks Doug,

I did take 12 X 5 Mins but the guiding was hiccuping and i didn't think they were good enough to include in the stack. They all had small problems with eggy stars etc.

Congrats, Paul. That's a great start!

I used a Tak Collimating scope on my RC10 (originally Doug's) and that worked very well.

Cheers,
Rick.

Grahame was going to bring his over but his RC uses astro physics 2.7" connections so without the right adapter we wouldn't have got it to fit

I feel your pain The Tak Collimating scope has a fairly unusual M36.4P1 male thread. I have some Tak adapters that fit and I also picked up a Borg #7423 adapter which will attach the Tak Collimating scope to a male T-Thread.

I also went with an AP 2.7" imaging train so I could use the AP 27TVPH 0.75x focal reducer. I have an Atlas focuser on order which will allow me to put together my ultimate (ha ha) imaging train with the 27TVPH, a Starlight Xpress AO-LF unit and my SX filter wheel and H-18 camera.

Cheers,
Rick.

Thanks Paul neither can I... I work 4 nights a week so it makes me more vulnerable to the whims of bad weather so i'll be hanging out to get some more scope time

They are difficult indeed! At times it seems totally counter intuative push this one pull on the opposite... secondary adjust.. Primary adjust.. rinse and repeat... In the end stars tell the whole storey and star testing is the best medicine.

Having got that somewhat tamed now i can start adding back into the imaging train and try to get the OAG going and the Moonlight autofocusing... all of which is going to take time

Onward and upward

Paul

A great photo for a "rough" shot Paul.

A sign of great photos to come.

Ross.
