Brisbane Sth 4pm Day becomes Night

I have not seen the sky turn so black so quickly that I can ever remember.
Came in so quick from Southwest just beautiful to watch, bit scary yes, observatory well and truly tied down. We barely ended up with much at Loganholme, mostly pea sized hail but the weather warnings clearly showed 2 very dangerous storms moved just South and just North of us. I am expecting to hear of severe damage, hope others here in Brissy faired well.

Hi David,
There were a few house shakers and a couple of great ground strikes but considering what it looked like as it approached not many. It was really hiking and I can't really convey in the pics how awesome and beautiful it was to stand there watch the oncoming black from the horizon, be directly overhead within less than 10 minutes. I was expecting really severe winds but seems the really bad bits went just South and North of us. Temperature drop was incredible, actually got cold after a steamy day.

Good to see it missed you peter, moved from the lockyer valley 12 months ago to tassy and well i don't miss the storms one bit.

Wow, that just came out of no where. It was a hot sunny day before that hit and now its brrrrrrr. Open the doors and felt like I was walking into a freezer so closed them back again. Grass was covered in hail (small). Poor cat has never seen hail before so he was very scared and didn't know quite what to make of it all.
I just can't believe I came home half an hour before that hail storm hit!

Great shots there Peter. It sure looked wicked- had me worried! Yes, on came the lights at 4.30, was as so dark!

Yeah, that was pretty intense! I saw the storm cell approaching and wanted to catch a time lapse of it, but I couldn't get set up in time because my German shepherd was freaking out and going nuts.

Here's a photo of the approaching storm - the day vs night transition was amazing to watch. I managed to catch a lightning strike near high voltage power lines too

The weird thing is that it's all passed and we currently have cloudy blue skies with a beautiful pink sunset.

That big field is a really nice backdrop.. bit like tornado alley.
I was just looking and admiring that beautiful sunset only 5 mins ago. So much pink and blue in those clouds- it's so pretty!

Thanks! It's great being able to see so many photos from different places minutes after the storm passes... aah, technology.

I think I'm beginning to understand the thrill of storm chasing A few more pics:

* Blue skies and beautiful fluffy clouds ahead of the storm front.
* Swirling cauldron of the storm just about to hit.
* Inside the storm - the sky is green (hail?) and the lightning strikes closer.

The time lapse represents only 5 minutes of time passing - a fast moving storm!
