I've been having a lot more fun than expected using my (literally) shiny new Thousand Oaks white light solar filter - with a bit of duct taping, it works great on my 132 mm and 80 mm refractors, as well as SLR lenses.
This one from today was using my Canon 5DmkII on a tripod, prime focus through the Orion ST80 (normally used for auto guiding), and solar filter.
With the amount of sunspot activity going on, I've decided to try and take pictures every two days... we'll see how that goes.
Thanks Mark. I think the solar filter itself has a strong yellow-orange bias. When I look at the sun through the filter without the scope, it's the same colour as the photo.
I think you can use Photoshop (or equivalent) to get the yellow-orange colour?
My filter's tint is a lot like shooting the sun late in the afternoon (during the golden hour). Here's a photo taken through my SLR when the cloud cover was heavy enough to act as a filter (and NASA's prediction of sunspots for the day).
