Wow,

That is a senstational shot Tom,Well done.

What telescope/filter where you using the colour is realy nice.

I could some of the bigger sunspots using the pinhole method this morning.I took a pic but it is very very bad compared to yours.but I was still suprised to see it using a simple pinhole method.

Thanks for posting
regards Orestis
Ps-Its a Great day for viewing the sun.

Tom have you used an off axis Solar filter on your 12". I think about 100 mm is optimum for that aperture. The seeing is so variable here that the smaller aperture will probably give a much sharper view of the Sunspots. Thanks for the views.

Hi Orestis. I used a Canon EOS 600D with 12" Sky-Watcher Goto Dobsonian and a full aperture Mylar sheet filter. I shot in monochrome "green filter" mode, and then added the colour in Photoshop later. The filter gives an orange colour cast even though the Sun is white.

Derek I have tried an off-axis filter on the 12" previously but found that the clarity wasn't as good for me as the full aperture filter because there seemed to be a bit of directional blurring depending on the positioning of the off-axis aperture. I am still experimenting on the best way to capture the Sun using the Dobsonian and DSLR.
