Sore and sorry

Well after 39 years of driving I pranged my first car last night. Some guy ran a give way sign and barrelled into the side of us pushing the drivers door into me. Both my wife and I was transported to hospital and about 30 xrays later (between us) was released at 10 pm last night. Both drivers side doors now protrude into the cab about 9 inches and the "B" column is mangled. The police said we were very lucky we had a 4X4 as most of the impact was taken on the floor pan. Fortunately we have insurance.

Now all I got to do is find the car it was towed and we don't know by who.

glad to hear that you are both ok. You will probably be a bit sore for a few days though. Make sure you get checked out if it lasts much longer than that though.

btw - the 127 is loving its new home. I am already planning a new focuser - something motorised!

Thanks we have motorbikes but not sure our necks would put up with the weight of the helmets just yet.

Yes we are preparing ourselves for the problems with insurance companies hassles have already started. The other guy gave wrong rego number on contact details, fortunately the police have the correct info. Just waiting for a call with details.

I'm really pleased you guys weren't too badly hurt, and I hope you recover real soon.

I know that our youngsters these days get quite a bit of practice as they go through their driving licence routine, but I dread the thought of my inexperienced youngsters driving around and being at the mercy of these types of idiots - or worse. It's a real worry! Did our folks think the same when we started?

2 days later and more sore now than when it happened for both my wife and I. Turns out I am eligible for a hire car for 14 days so will be taking the option up, too sore for motorbikes. Off to the doctors again tomorrow as I am now getting pain in my ribs and headache as well as my collar bone and going dizzy.

Sorry to hear what's happened to you and your wife and car.
I really do hope you improve soon and all the insurance business will be stress free to a minium. It's not good at all to hear you are still unwell.

Been advised to get a good solicitor by the doctor at the hospital. Insurance for the car should be ok but will get advice on whether I should claim against my insurance and let my insurance company recover the $$$ or should I go direct to his insurance company.

The idiot is a 68 year old nomad complete with camper van in tow.

Other people have some 'big ones' giving the wrong rego number!!!! Do you know if it was totally out or just mixed up.

Glad to hear you are all good. and that you have insurance. Many people i know dont have it just to save a few pennies.

My car is still sat in the holding yard at the tow company. Insurance co as requested the car to dropped off at the panel beaters but they won't release until insurance company pay the tow fees (hate tow company). Spoke to insurance company about time frame to finalize ( write off or repair) and was asked if I believe in Santa. Time frame 2 - 3 months. Hate insurance companies. Was told probably easier to go out and buy another car and hope they write off the damaged car. I think I will push the tow and insurance company to get the car released so a quote can be done so I can make a decision.

Geez, your insurance companies seem to really drag their heels.
My bump about 18 months ago one weekend was in the Insurers shop on the following Saturday, courtesy car (Suzuki Swift) provided and back all fixed a week later. Two weeks all done.

Lost my no claims bonus but not surprising after I backed into a parked Porsche. Stupid thing was so low I coldn't see it in the rear vision mirror !! Legnum rear view is not the best and the crowned road not much help.

The Swiftie was fun to drive after my big wagon, cheap too !!

Glad you were in a substantial vehicle - if it had been a korean tin boxit might have been a lot worse.
It's pretty hard being tied up by the insurance companies.
In reality, if the other person is in the wrong, then it should immediately pay all expenses- including the hire of an equivalent vehicle and any medical bills.
