I'm looking to replace my underperforming 220mm (made myself!) with something which will fit the OTA/Mount I have, hence the specifications (sorry Asi, if I had an EQ6 I'd think about it).

$500 gets a Bintel or GSO mirror ($700-$800 gets you the entire dob with eyepieces), but the mirror is of uncertain pedigree - And yes I do know that some of these mirrors turn out very nice indeed, but some of course don't so I'm not yet sure if I want to take the chance.

Discovery Optics in the US will guarantee the figure and get great reviews but this costs money - US$659 plus shipping (and a tad fast for my liking at f4.5).

It's all too dificult

I have looked through a number of gso scopes and havent seen an obviously bad mirror yet. I would suggest that if you did you would be quite unlucky.
Having said that I have seen GS dobs performing poorly due to mirror mounting issues.
If you want better its going to cost a LOT more.

John B is the man to ask about GS mirrors.

I remember last year the 12" mirror being advertised for $399. $499 is a bit much for the mirror considering the 10" standard Dob is $599.

J - A case of ATM's not wanted here?

S - GSO claim 1/12th wave and have the equipment to test it I believe, so your quite right - no bad mirrors and amazing for mass produced stuff. But how sweet would it be to get that hand figured super smooth 1/16 wave treasure?!?
