Lawn bowls. Took it up about 2 months ago. Very relaxing and it's not as easy at it looks.
Most clubs have a set or 2 of bowls so you can give it a go without cost. I did it this way and ended up buying a set of bowls.
And you get to meet a lot of interesting people.

Hi Tony,

Take up a language.

I have been studying French for about 18 months, and in that time have spent almost a month in France, and read about 10 French novels. It has opened up all sorts of new and interesting ideas and experiences for me, I have met lots of interesting people, and have made some memories which will stay with me forever.

This is me in the Loire Valley, in front of Chambord. Bloody amazing!

Hi Tony

Well, what other things do you like? Are you looking for something to 'do' or something you can throw yourself into.

There are so many things i could suggest, but i don't know much about you so don't know where to start.

I'm guessing you've played Minecraft

we could just keep you posting on here?

what subjects do you enjoy at school? any ideas what you may want to do when you leave? I'm just thinking that if for example you like English. what about reading, or even trying your hand at writing. If you enjoy Maths, and you like games, what about programming? how about learning to play guitar?

i guess it depends too on what you want to get out of your new hobby...

hmm... i never did get music, both listening and playing i did write a fair bit, but its become more of a chore than a hobby. i know im being really difficult right now aha but i dont want to make the mistake of taking up a hobby to drop it again after a week or so as for the subjects i like at school... i do enjoy IPT which is basically computers we're learning visual basics so maybe programming isnt such a bad idea haha...

Bird watching. Australia is one of the best birdwatching places in the world, what with all the colourful parrots and other birds you have there.

Tony, the best advice I could give with the limited info available, is 'Get fit!'

You are young, now is the best time. If you don't get fit now, it will only get harder and harder as time goes by.

Being fit allows you to do much more in life, gives you more options, more opportunities, and gives your brain more 'go'. It gives you confidence, so you'll have much more luck with the ladies (or blokes if you're that way inclined - as Seinfeld says, "Not that there's anything wrong with that"). It could save your life soon, it could save it later, or it could just allow your life to be longer. I was never very fit as a youngster, then in my late 20's to early 30's I worked hard at it and got very fit. I'm bloody lucky I did too, because when I was 34 I had a very serious accident, and if I wasn't as fit as I was, I would not have made it. My life since recovering has been wonderful, I'm so glad I'm still here.

Seriously, being fit you will get much more out of life. (And you won't be such a burden on the health system as you get older!)

Geez, I sound like some sort of preacher! I don't usually go around saying all this stuff!

Cheers,
Jason.

Take up a musical instrument....guitar, mandolin, piano, drums, bagpipes, violin...try anything

Trace your family tree....now, genealogy, that's something that will keep you going for a long time. Trust me

Build a model railway, build and fly radio controlled planes or make plastic models. Like computers....build and repair them. Learn how to cut and polish gemstones. Build and fly model rockets.

Plenty of hobbies to get into

Get political.
Parade down your street wearing naught but a protest sign.
Get inventive.
Turn your vacuum into a musical instrument.
Get badass.
Buy a skateboard. Better yet, steal one.
Go mad.
Collect various 'hairs' and file them in zippy bags.

Or as my mother used to say, "There's plenty of house-work to be done."

Oh but really, this is a fun site.

I recently made an acoustic speaker for the Iphone out of duct tape and an A4 binder.

And I second what Jason said. Get off yer bum and get fit. While you're young.

Hi Tony, you could try beekeeping if you have a backyard.

It's a fascinating pastime and you get free honey as well, you'll probably get enough to sell as well.

Hi Adrian
Might i suggest Ham Radio, its a fun hobby you get to meet people from around the world and talk to them and you can spend as much or as little to achive these results, but in saying that that when you walk outside at night you will still look up and say i might just get a small camera to play with every now and then

cheers

Graeme

Tony, do you like Wood or Metalwork?

Either or both of these pursuits will usually become useful in a lot of interesting hobbies you may take on in the future.

Basic metal machining (lathe and mill) can be learned through clubs, books and friends.

Michael.

How about amateur astronomy... great hobby!
But seriously Tony I think I know where you are at. As a young fella after about 5 years into the hobby I digressed into playing guitar, joining a band, playing gigs, a record and no interest in astronomy (or so I thought). Then in my mid twenties I "rediscovered" amateur astronomy by chance walking into a small book store in Hobart and buying a Patrick Moore book called The Observers Guide to Astronomy - basic but that's all that was needed. By then I was married with kids on the way and amateur astronomy was reawakened in a really big way. Amateur astronomy was just laying dormant waiting for that spark. Haven't looked back since. It happens to many.
I'm sure you will find something that will fill this period. You are a bright young man and your employment future is what is becoming important, make wise decisions in that regard and we will be reading about the RC Optics / Planewave super dooper system you have in years to come from all those $$$
Best

PeterM.
