Magic of the Catlins

The magic of the Catlins on display in the form of Purakaunui Falls after a deluge of rain.

I was in about a foot of water when I made this image.

I posted a sneak peak of this a while back as Conceiving You.

Canon EOS 5D Mark II, Canon EF 17-40mm f/4L USM
10s f/16 at 21.0mm iso400

Slightly larger resolution available here.

Your comments and critique are most welcome.

Thanks for looking.

Beautiful Pic H!
Comment......Looking at the pic overall is fantastic, but when my eyes wandered over to the top left I noticed the dead branches and then to the center top the very green "moss/ferns" distracted me.
It sort of distracted me from the beautiful waterfall features.

Just my thoughts....

Top shot once again H, but i do have to agree with Bart on that bright green mossy bit on the centre top of the frame, however still a beautiful capture.

Beautiful. I think I prefer this one to "Conceiving You" as we get to see the whole thing, don't feel like I'm missing out on anything.

I think if an image is making my eyes look over all parts and aspects of it in detail, mission accomplished. I love the way H treats his images, I don't get the impression there's much in there by accident

Very nice. I like the angle & composition as well as the colours. Having the water sweeping past is nice.

Bart,

Thanks for the feedback!

I'm just wondering what exactly about the dead branches to green moss is distracting? Is it because there's a dead element in the image, next to something full of vitality and life? I could easily clone them out, but, that'd be taking away from the authenticity of the scene. Consider it a take on juxtaposition.

Leon,

Cheers! Appreciate the feedback. I actually like the brightness of the moss -- it really is that intense down there. It's also very slippery!

Troy,

Thanks, bud! Yep, Conceiving You was just a throwaway in the end, I guess. I kind of liked it at the time so gave it the full treatment. There's still images from 2009 and 2010 that need processing yet. I'm starting to build a bit of a backlog. :S

Thanks for your very kind words. xxx

Roger,

Cheers, mate. I was in about a foot of water when I took that image. I take my waders with me whenever I go to New Zealand, because, I know that they will always come in handy!
