Brilliant.

I'm ashamed to say that I'd written her off, pre-match, for the previous choking problem. I didn't want to watch. I'm so glad to have (tentatively) turned on the telly to see her lofting the trophy high. I'd say she's shaken the curse off.

Grand Slam Sam aka Twinkle Toes

Yes hearty congrats to Sam,

Up here in God's country, she has already been crowned "Grand Slam Sam" and Yvonne G on the Wireless revealed Sam is also known as "Twinkle Toes".

HM & I watched the match, disregarding the first ace & yells from Gorilla, Sam never faultered - remained calm hit her winners when they counted.

Sam has looked so fit and focused throughout the tournament - the fact that she didn't drop a set throughout indicates she has turned the corner.

'Tis quite fitting she received congratulations from past winners Margaret Court & Yvonne Goolagong. Its been a long time between Aussie winning women.

Let's hope she climbs a few more "mountains".

David

A Gorrilla? nice ..Nothing wrong with women with strong powerful bodies who can use them?..bring it on! . I think Serina is fantastic and has done wonders for womens tennis, can make out bursts and throw a bit of a hissy at times but plenty of players are guilty of the same both men and women, she's one of the great players of all time. Sam however is the consummate profoessional and a great ambassador for the game and women in sport generally, a very nice and long over due result

She didn't drop a set in the final, she had several 3 set matches leading up to the final including the longest match ever at the US Open in the modern era.
She is an inspiration for anyone who doesn't succeed at their first or subsequent try.
I think the second gladdest person after Sam that she won was the security guy who awkwardly lifted her up into the courtside box to be with her entourage, if Serena had won......
