Jupiter - 1 big dot, 4 small dots

Pointed my scope at jupiter last night and took a snap. Certainly does not look like everyone else's attempts!

Is this because:
a) Overexposed?
b) I need a Powermate x5 of similar

I was having the same problem, I had the gain set too high on the imaging software I was using, and was over-exposing the shots. What camera/scope are you using? And what software do u use to take/edit the shot?

I'm far from an expert though, here's my first successful pic with the gain turned down. Also check out the Article on planetary imaging with a dob... Heaps of useful tips.

Don't worry, it's a very common problem when we all start out! Yes to both. Overexposed & you need some sort of image amplification (a barlow). However the upside is, by overexposing the planet you have picked up the 4 moons! Hope you have a mount that tracks..?

Yep, in hindsight it was overexposed. I have a 2x Barlow, do I just shove it in to my projection tube and then in to the eyepiece holder? My visual observations were great, I could make out the stripes on Jupiter and the moons quite clearly.

Setup:
SW 252 10" Newt

Edit: Just got the bit about EP projection. I'm not overly knowledgeable in this area actually. I only use the prime focus system.
