My wife is between jobs, and has been turning her hand to some knitting projects. In a moment of sympathy, she decided to knit me a "Helmet" for observing. Apparently it is based on a world war 2 pattern - very popular for something to send to the front lines....
Marc, I am advised by SWMBO that much love is knitted into each stitch, making it much warmer than your average beanie....She also advises that warmth is inversely proportional to convention. I must say that my freezer suit is yet to draw any female interest, which may well prove her point.
I like it and think it is quite fetching! Well done to your wife.
Is she taking orders?
Maybe an internet business could fill her between job time. My Grandmother for many years ran a "hand craft" small business from her house specializing in knitted and quilted goods. My Grandfather was a very low paid small town Church Minister and the income supplement was pretty handy for them (and satisfying for her).
well I have to admit I purchased one of these at a star party from an IISer some years ago but never summoned the courage to actually wear it in public, so well done
when the conditions are such that you need your balaclava - no one is going to be laughing at you for wearing it - they will want one too
Geoff (inmykombie) wears his at the pony club in the winter months along with his freezer suit (its awkward to observe with the freezer suit hood up sometimes) and i'm sure Rod is going to make good use of his wifes creation as an accompaniment to his freezer suit as well
I wear one similar tn Rod's. I do get laughs from others. Funny enough, the laughs go deathly quiet as the night wears on, even from the beannie crowd.
I think it's great!
Something that is custom made and warm is a luxury!! I wear one of those Chinese 'beanies" with the ear covers, (minus the tie strings and pom-pom), which is great when you have to wear glasses.
Be bold, and laugh at the cold!
Cheers!
