Strange clouds this evening

I've just been out to our observing field for a spot of astrophotography and snapped these strange clouds just on dusk. I've never seen this sort of formation before. The air at ground level was perfectly still.

Fascinating!

we had something similar but not so dramatic. lots of ice crystals though - we had a kaleidescope at one stage with the sun shining through.
