Ngc6164

Last night I had some good conditions to image this small object. It looks like a small planetary but is in fact a small emission nebula with a really large star in its center that is nearing the end of its life. The whole field is really nice with faint hydrogen seen in the upper parts of the image and the diverse star field at the bottom. It could do with some more exposure time and I will try to get this next month before going onto other things.

Yeh that's a nice little neb that one near NGC 6188. There is a faint circular lobbed envelope around it too, that should start to reveal itself with more expsure

Nice little nebula Paul. Something just doesn't look right. The black looks very black and the overall image seems red tinted or something. I just can't put my finger on it.

I don't think it is the total background as being red tinted, just the top and that is the hydrogen in the area. It only shows up in the red channel.

The black are just one of those things. This whole part of the sky I have been looking at lately has lots of this really inky black stuff everywhere. I am not sure how I make it grey given what happens to the rest of the area. I had the same problem when I did Barnard 92/93. It just did not want go from black to grey.

Yes I recognize the one, in narrowband the shell shows up nicely, somewhat of a challenge with RGB though I would have thought.

I did almost make a reference to your request for different images in my initial post here Clive. I just thought you might like to know that I was thinking of you.

Yeah it is a tough act with RGB, but I could add some narrow band to it later.

A classic little neb and good image here Paul.
Had always noticed this little guy to the outer edge of my fov in my previous setups, but opted for the larger Ngc6188..

Finally imaged it back in 08.
The interesting thing about this neb is that it is bi polar. (poor thing) Meaning it appears the star is giving off extreme radiation to its poles and exciting those areas of the surrounding gas.

I have a bit more of a description on this object and the extraordinary star at the heart.

Thanks Rich. I did some reading up on this before imaging it. Certainly the central star is of interest.
