Nice. What exposure time(s)? I have been wanting to photograph it and some other comets for sometime but the weather and equipment simply haven't behaved.

Got some nice color there

Handy info I'm shooting this comet as I type, hoping 600 sec exposures wont drift too much, Did you guide on the comet or stars?

Well I think you've done better than my initial try, yes I think 250 secs would be better, it's hiking along somewhat...... Oh well too late now

I'm getting a lot of artifacts, stacking in DSS..... What did you stack in and how?

Snap, me too. Nice shot.
I used 60 second subs, and did 30 of them, but the nucleus still trailed.

Hi Gary,

I've used the latest version of Deep Sky Stacker and there is a function to stack on the comet... From memory, register the frames, then click on the comet mode and highlight the object, it then stacks on the comet. One of my runs from the Queensland Astrofest, 28 x 180 sec, modded 450D, WO 110 @ f4.9. FOV is about 2.3 x 1.7 deg (Might be a bit less because I think I cropped it).

Sorry to hijack your thread Tony, Cool shots... I need to work on what I'm doing wrong with my colour. Over cooked the processing but I wanted to get more tail detail.

Found out a few things about the comet thing, DSS works better with lots of frames, BUT when you use the comet method of stacking it kills the color, less dynamic range, and the algorithms must blur/ median the background.

Low f ratio seems to be a key element.
