nose to nose

Happened to switch on NASA TV last night, and they were playing a tape of shifting Discovery out of a hanger to put another shuttle in, to prepare it for display. - lots of fat blokes giving advise to the tow driver.

"Steve, could you move the Camera, I need to get the Torana out so I can get to the Commodore. I'll have to get the keys to the Cortina if I'm gonna move that Camera. Yeah, watch the boat mate"

Anyway they parked them nose to nose for a photo shoot. It was the first time Ive seen two shuttles together. very cool.

I was lucky enough to be at Kennedy Space Centre in February 2008 when they had STS123 ready for launch and STS124 on pad B at the same time as an emergency back up for STS 122 that was still in orbit at the time, talk about your air traffic control traffic jam. Awesome sight, two shuttles on two pads both prepped for launch and the launch tower swung open for all to see. The weather caused STS 122 to be late for re-entry which shifted STS 123 back a few weeks and unfortunately I missed an actual launch, never mind, it was still awesome to see shuttles up close(ish) and personal.

Cheers Dennis.

We saw the same thing in 1995 with STS-73 and 74 on the launch pads together due to delays in 73 getting off the ground.
