Baader MPCC for DSOs and widefields?

I'm thinking about buying something to correct the coma I'm seeing in my Canon 350D images taken through an LXD-75 SN-8. Does anyone think the Baader MPCC is a good/bad/excellent choice for coma correction? How much does one cost? How effective is it? Where can I buy one?

Howdy

The MPCC works brilliantly for Newtonians, and also improves Sn's as well, , so yes you will notice a marked improvement in your LXD. They are a bit hard to get in Australia, 2 of us here bought them direct from http://www.alpineastro.com/
they airmailed them out in one package to us.

Hi Bill
I can confirm that the MPCC does a great job on my SN10. I can see no reason why it would not work on the SN8 as it too is f4. There is some evidence that, because the SN scopes are already corrected, the MPCC will produce an overcorrection. If this is indeed a problem it is not noticeable in normal visual use or DSLR imaging.

I got mine at Alpine Astro as well. Here is a link to the info:
http://www.alpineastro.com/optical_a...ccessories.htm

You will be up for around $A200. There are prices on the site.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Thanks, that info is gold. Cheers!

I'm not sure that I can put up with coma all through the outer 1/3 of each image. Seems a waste. I'll get the device and see how it works out.

Bill

I know exactly what you mean. When I got my 300D I was really happy with the images it produced with the SN10, until a mate pointed out the coma. He lent me his MPCC and after trying it, I had to have one!! You won't regret it.

Good luck
