Post Ron Howard to direct blockbuster movie on Formula 1 in the '70's.

One for F1 fans and moviegoers ...

Ron Howard, director of "Apollo 13" and "A Beautiful Mind", is reported to be in
preproduction for a big screen movie with the working title of "Rush", which centers
on the world of Formula One racing in the 1970's.

As reported on the F1 web site, apart from the 1966 John Frankenheimer big screen
blockbuster, "Grand Prix" and the recently released and highly acclaimed documentary,
"Senna", few serious attempts have been made by filmmakers to capture the essence
of F1.

Howard promises that it will not be a documentary but a motion picture that will
be "fascinating, sizzling, sexy and entertaining" and will have a European production
with a "really big budget".

One of the aspects of the film that Howard has revealed is telling the story
of how Niki Lauda, only weeks after having been in a horrific crash that almost claimed
his life, gets back behind the wheel to challenge his rival, James Hunt.

According to the Internet Movie Database, Australian actor Chris Hemsworth has
been cast to play the role of James Hunt and Spanish actor, Daniel Brühl has
been cast to play Niki Lauda.

Release date has been scheduled for 2013.

Ron Howard?
Hmmmnnnn....maybe.

One of the great things about "Grand Prix" is the on-screen presence of actual, contemporary GP drivers like Graham Hill which is obviously not going to happen here.
