M 51 supernova using GRAS-003

I thought I would use some of my introductory free credit on the Global Rent a Scope taken through a 150mm Tak using a colour CCD camera for a 600 sec shot. Didn't cost me a cent and I have a supernova shot that I could not have got from my location. Please don't comment about my skills in the arrow drawing department.

Great arrows, Mark

Nice shot too

It's a pity GRAS is a little dear. To really use it to its best you need to spend quite a bit of money.

Thanks for showing Mark. Is GRAS very hard to get your head around?

Nope, easy as pie. Just tell the scope what your target is and it does the rest. However, you can setup all the parameters of a shot for yourself, if you want to.

Hi Rob,
I agree with what Carl said. I have just clicked on the object that I want to image out of a picture list and it does the rest. It is inyeresting as it list all the procedures it is doing to set up the image as it goes. I think you get about three images to trial which is all I am going to do but intend to put my Yr 11 Physics class onto it so we can get 20 lots of 3 images.

Mark, you can get an institution account with GRAS that is setup for the likes of schools and unis. You want to have a look at what's offered

M51 GRAS 02 immediately before

By sheer luck I managed to take an M51 image on the GRAS 02 scope just prior to the event - have to go for just after next time :-). Was playing around with the trial account and taking my first astrophotos. Quick way to learn about the differences that field of view makes, by comparing the shots from a couple of different telescopes on the same object.

Hi Mark,

Send me an email and I will organise a Free GRAS group account for your class. Happy to help show the sky to the younguns!
