Hi guys. I need a method to stick a diy Finderscope and mount onto a OTA. Its about 500g and double sided tape just dosent cut it(intead it because a nuisance to clear it off). I dont want to drill into the tube. The base of the finderscope mount is Balsa( to attach to the curvature of the tube.)
I've used double sided tape for finders & you'd be right, it doesn't really cut it except for a few nights. I don't think you have a choice other than to bolt it on. If in the future you want to block the holes up in the tube, just find some rubber grommets/blanks.
I have consulted my dad and he says, make sure it all works with tape then we will bolt i on. He is kind of hesitant because this was all a diy project. Got steel rod made 2 rings and took apart a cheap binocs.
Can you attach it (bolt/screw) to the tube rings, at least to try it. Position possibly won't be quite as convenient, but it will prove the design if nothing else. Most OTA rings have a 1/4x20 threaded hole on the top, perhaps you could use that?

This is the tape to use to stick anything to your OTA.
It is water, ice, heat resistant. I've used it for over 3 years without any problems. You will have to buy it from Scopestuff in the US.
Not expensive. Easy to remove with dental floss.
