She'll be right ...
It appears to me from recent threads that this astronomy lark may not be quite as safe as one would think.
What do you recon is the most likely hazard?

Have you concidered the effects of electro magnetic radiation to the brain from holding your face too close to the monitor while trying to choose the best frames for processing. seriously, it can't be good for you

This is a hard one to choose the right answer, too many of the answers are right for all of us.

On my second last dark sky trip I was nearly removed from earthly existance by a dopey driver who thought driving on the wrong side of the Mornington peninsula freeway was a good idea.
He swerved at the last moment but not soon enough to avoid clipping my wheel arch guard, causing a nice gouge mark down the side of his bmw.
Astronomy is a dangerous hobby

G'day All,
I chose "other" because of nearly drowning in the pool. The telescope was set up close to the pool and I was happily observing when the cat silently came along and smooched my leg. Leaping backwards in fright, in that situation, was not a good thing!
Peter.

You missed 'Scared to death' (although it probably fits in with Volan's pool story).
A long long time ago in a Galaxy far ...... (scrap that - start again)
An old member of the ASNSW had a farm out near Oberon and a few of the members had access to one of his paddocks anytime - in fact one just turned up.
I remember driving there one Friday night in the rain and by the time I had arrived it had turned into a full thunderstorm. It was late enough so I knew I was on my own at least for that night. Around midnight the weather cleared to one of those fantastic clear dark nights (the kind you associate with the rain washing the dust and stuff out of the sky).
About 2am while bent over the scope I had a push in the back - turning around all I could see was a large black mass standing between me and my torch (at the table). After some tense moments, including trying to talk to the whatever, I suddenly realised I had left the gate open and one of his cows had come in to check out the intruder! A possible heart attack situation!
Regards
Glenn D

even tho it is sort of covered in the crashing on the way home choice - what about hitting a kangaroo or wombat/livestock/road trains - lets face it, it can be nutso driving around most of rural Australia at night/dusk
I just missed two roos and 15 rabbits a few days ago
Of course the answer is too go slower in area's where roo's are common, that seems to work quite well most of the time. Also look out and beware on roads where the vegetation/bush is too close to the road.
EDIT: I removed the link as your right rowena, its to gory maybe - sorry!

I thought of a few left-field ideas when I put the poll together, but I never thought that animal attack would figure so extensively!
I should have though; I've been swooped on by flying foxes a couple of times whilst up my ladder.

RSI is definitely on the cards if you can be bothered hand-stacking in registax! Took me 3 weeks to get over it after stacking a big AVI. Ouch.

ouchh!!!!!!!!
Well I have had four injuries todate!!!!first ws when I got my refractor and walked back to the car to get something ( can't remember what) but instead of walking through a gate opeing in a padock, I hit a two foot high post a rail fence at full stride to the shin.... bruised for a month!!!second was when I slipped carrying out the LX 200 (12inch) and decided the fall would hurt less than the repair bill... so I took 12inch of Meade to the chest as I went down.... buising lasted as long as the wife kept laughinf at e trying to get into baths, off toilets and behind car wheels... ( she can be cruel at times :-( )third was a good poke to the eye from the wife when she found out the bill for the 12 inch was infact USDollars and not HongKong dollars as I had told her!!!! :-Olast was funny and involved a porcupine in th middle of a farm in africa. It was soo dak you could read a book by star like... anyways on the way back to packing up, me and porcupine decided to choose the same route... I paniced at first when the pet of the devil russtleeed up the quills and then managed to charge back straight into a storm watr ditch.... everyone died laughing and I liked my wounds for days.....Tonyps... we did a star party on night at a private zoo with lions and tigers in it,,,, it gets pretty un-nerving when a 400pound pussycat purs at you just 2 feet away and you did not see or hear it coming upto the fence!!! http://img426.imageshack.us/img426/2...ychaos11uw.jpghttp://img426.imageshack.us/img426/5...upclose0qt.jpg

Just a warning.... The link that Fringe posted is quite gory, and anyone with a weak stomach should not click on the link!
as for me, i dont have to worry about the spouse, as long as he gets to spend some money on his toys that he wants, its all fair... however i do limit him on his toy spending! (or will be very shorlty! lol )
