Andrews ups the prices..

Interesting that Andrews advertised prices significantly lower than Bintels on the new f4 Newts and then as soon as they were delivered and ready to ship to customers upped their prices to their standard slightly below Bintel Prices. One could legitimately wonder whether the original prices were spoilers so that people would hang off buying from Bintel....

A friend had a long standing order for a 12 inch, then wanted a 10" as well. He found that Andrews refused to honor the web site price from last week, and added an extra charge for freight on as well.....

Not good PR I would have thought....

I think this may have been due to the Yuan value increasing..
Its not the U.S dollar you need to only worry about.
But if a deposit was made, then it should be honoured.

no deposit was paid unfortunately. I would have thought thought that if a price had been advertised for a couple of months, that it would not change suddenly as soon as stock arrived. If the price was likely going to change, it would have been better to not advertise the price until the stock arrived.

I would imagine Lee at Andrews would have been rather annoyed at the rising Yuan too.
His ordered stock would have cost him a lot more when it arrived. And he is probably wishing GS honoured their commitment too.

Advertising can be a risky business. It causes many arguments in all trades, not just Astro shops.
But what are they to do? Never advertise, 'just in case prices go up'?

Yes, not a nice thing to do to customers, but as you said yourself, his adjusted price was still cheaper.

Its always worth asking shops to price match - doesn't hurt, and in the case of my last purchase (CGEM), I was able to have my cake and eat it too

It would be common for most websites to have fine print somewhere that says that prices can change at any time without notice - unless they state otherwise - eg. firm until a certain date. Often it is also for current stock. Incoming stock may vary. Swings and roundabouts - who'd want to run a business!

Let's face it guys.............this happens a lot in this country.
The price has to be listed and advertised so that the consumer can make a decision on who or where to purchase from. That is unavoidable.

It must be frustrating for the retailer to then receive the goods and be charged more for it and having to tell the customer that the price has gone up due to that fact.

However, we as consumers trust that the company is being honest with us and not just trying to make an extra buck if we look or sound gullible and can be taken advantage of.
