[update] Second Hand Stepper motors (source found)

HI all,

I am trying to get hold of a couple of cheap second hand stepper motors of about 4v-9v range preferable below 1A rating. Either NEMA23 or NEMA 17 motor housing 0.9 degree or 1.8 degree steps. 6 wires would be ideal. I had a couple but have since given them away (oops)

Does anyone know a source for second hand steppers? If they have 5:1 gearboxes that would be GREAT! I dont want to spend too much, but if you have some laying around not doing anything, I would consider a purchase. I f you know of a place that sells them, that would be GREAT! also.

Thanks....

Andrew, try the usual places like >http://www.oatleyelectronics.com/
http://www1.jaycar.com.au/
http://www.dse.com.au/cgi-bin/dse.st...3fc0a87f9c071a

Also might like to try your local Photocopier/Fax/Printer type shops. Heaps of steppers in each unit... HTH.. L.

i ripped my 1.8 degree steppers out of a 5 1/4" disk drive.

I also bought 6 x 7.5 degree steppers with a 100:1 reduction built in for around $16 each from oatley.

Can some one please explain what exactly is a stepper?
I'm guessing it's a pulsed power supply...?

a motor driven my pulsing digital signals to magnets in the motor. They are very precise in that they turn exact degrees at a time, so for focussers and telescope drives they are very popular.

I've got 4 large used 6V DC 6 wire 1.8° stepper motors (Japan Servo Co. KP6M2-001). Picture here: http://www.webclot.com/ForSale/DSCF0001.JPG

You can have them for a song (plus postage).

PM if interested.
