Buy and Sell

Firstly let me say l understand Mikes explanation for his decision to forgo the rules on this occassion but l must ask, if Mike or a moderator, if they also have the authority to bypass the rule, endorses a new member and allows them to take part in the buy and sell section and then in some way a buyer gets taken advantage off ( ripped off if you like ) who takes responsibility for this?, you cannot take a stance and then walk away when or if something goes wrong, l for one would be very annoyed, some may say you didn"t have to buy the item (if this ever happened) but remember, l have payed in good faith on the recommendation of the head of the site.
l in no way direct any of this in Malcolms direction l just point out l think you are treading a fine line by allowing this action.

Hi Mick.

Thanks for your questions.

The moderators do not have the ability or authority to allow a member to bypass the rule. Only I can do this.

Regarding your second point, the main rule in the buy/sell forum is

Quote:
IceInSpace takes no responsibility for the transaction or for the quality of the goods on sale. You buy and sell at your own risk. You should do whatever research you need to, to ensure you are confident that the transaction is genuine
The "5 post/1 month" rule does not over-ride the above rule. It's an additional rule to make a best effort to protect the members, but it certainly does not guarantee there will be no scam sales just because a member has made 5 posts. Conversely, if I make the decision to allow a member to bypass the rule, it in no ways transfers responsibility to me if the sale is bad.

It is not a "recommendation" from the head of the site, just as a member having made 5 posts does not become a "recommendation" from the head of the site.

Please don't read too much into the 5-post rule, or lack of one. It's a "best effort" to add some additional protection. The main rule of the buy/sell forum applies above all others.

There should be (and i'm sure there is) a "use-at-own-risk" discaimer for the site. I'm sure Mike does what he can to keep the site both as safe and as easy-to-use as possible, but you've got to be realistic. This whole site is essentially a DIY community affair which is why it works so well, but also why each member should understand that on the grand scale communism just does not work because of one very basic aspect of human nature: greed. But I digress. Buyer beware.

If there is a buy/sell at your own risk rule, then why was seller2's thread in the buy sell section closed? I only have second hand information, but it seens odd becuse the guy didn't sound like he used the internet a lot so probably make a few mistakes when he posted.

He was a really nice guy and I didn't get ripped off with the Tak, if fact I think I got it for about $1000 cheaper than what it was worth second hand. So I don't understand why other people miss out on the bargins now.

Please explain before I get too frustrated...

The thread started getting heated because of an increase in price of the remaining items, but the original thread was not updated (like you say, the member is not used to forums by the looks of it).

The thread was moved to the moderation area so the moderators can discuss it and find out what's actually going on.
