Dark DooDad in Musca

The DarkDooDad captured with FSQ106ED at F5 with QHY9 and Baader LRGB Filters.

11X 5 minute exposures of each LRGB. Captured at home in Mt Beauty over 2 nights. Seeing was not the best but it is nice and dark and there is no clouds.

Man, this is a dark doo dad Doug!... try saying that with a few ales under your belt!!
Has always fascinated me how these dark objects seem to cut a path through space... I know they're very cold, dark dense clouds and block the light from stars behind but how are they formed.... any ideas Doug??

Great guiding here as I see from your full frame image...
Ahh the great Q
Great for objects like this

Rich

Nice one Doug, but it needs a mosaic? 'Tis sticking out of each side of the frame

Got this object on live view on an integrating video cam the other night using little CCTV lenses (My GSTAR and Ken's Samsung). Resolution just a little worse, however

A rift in space! Nice shot Doug, great star colours. Have a look at a negative of the image, I think it shows some more detail in the Doodad. Top stuff

Regards
Keith

Really like it Doug, just seems that a part of the universe was cut in half so to speak.

Thanks for the kind comments Guy's. I must do this again but with the reducer fitted. F3.6 might just be right for this one.

Thanks.

Just did a bit of reading in the latest March edition of Astronomy Magazine.... page49 .. shows exactly what you have photographed...They call it " Dark Nebulae " . It's a short story of Edward Emerson Barnard's life and details some of his discoveries...! ... one of which is " Dark Nebulae.

Flash.
