M83- the majestic one

Ok, it is the lovely sthrn pin wheel time of the year.
This is my rendition.
Took a while to get some decent colour and the lum was a bit fuzzy. Not to mention the guiding a little mmm.
But it is too good a target to miss.

Here's a direct link to it for a peek.
http://www.baytop-observatory.com/ccdimages/galaxies/m83_southern_pin_wheel.htm

Hope you've had some clearish nights to collect your rgb's!

All the best
Rich

Gorgeous shot Rich. You've picked some great star colors even in that close blue/yellow pair and those three little background galaxies are very well resolved too. M83 itself is splendid. Nicely done.

PS: you guys in WA have to stop hogging all the clearskies and send some out east.

A lovely rendition Rich! Great detail and colours and you've done a good job controlling the noise. Well done!

Suggest you go for longer subs next time though. You won't have to battle so hard to get the colours and control noise then.

Cheers, Marcus

I always look to those little galaxies just to see how well they are resolving. I was happy to see a bit more of them revealed this year.
Ahh, I'm still in South Australia here Marc, albeit on the far west coast... close to the WA border though

I didn't really have any drama with the noise... I didn't even use any noise smoothing on the rgb data.. sometimes I do before merging the lum.
All the subs were pretty clean, so no noise reduction was used.
But you are right, it would be great if I could get out to longer exposures, would make processing even easier.
At the mo I'm stuck with flexure issues in my setup.. I have worked at this, but still stuck to 4 min.
An OAG will be where I need to go in the near future for sure.

Thanks all for your nice comments..
Always appreciated.

Rich

Ahh Mike, thanks mate.
Yes we can get real finicky and nit pick, but we are all pretty much aware of our own short falls and where we really want to go... getting there is the hardest thing

Thanks guys

All the best

A very nice M83 Rich. Very clear and nicely detailed. I know what you mean about flexure. It is a problem. OAG should help a lot. I have decided to scrap my guidescope and use the MMOAG only. It works really well on the CDK17 which would be impossible without it. With it 30 minute subs are possible with accurate enough Polar Alignment and PEC.

Greg.

Very nice Rich, It really is a beautiful galaxy just a pity it isn't 10 times it's size then it would be a nice target for the FSQ.

Its surprising how many objects can be imaged with the wide field FSQ.
Rogelio Andreo is one of the best at that. He even has a large mosaic linking M31 and M33. It looks quite good even though you wouldn't expect it.

Hi Greg, cheers mate!
Flexure aaahhhh, I've been battling it for years, but I know it's my accessory plate... either I go even thicker that 14mm alloy, or find a alloy blend that is stronger than what I have.... pretty much limited to what's available around here though.
Sounds like your having good fun with the OAG... 30min... beeeeautiful!
Have done my pec for the first time with my CI700/sitech controller and Pempro... I have very small PE without pec (after much fine tuning adding ceramic worm bearings, new Ra & Dec thrust bearing replacing clutchs, top of the range pulleys {no spur gears for me})..but now with PEC, it's sublime.. almost a straight line. Just that gol darn sag.
If and when I go for the OAG, that means I'll have to fork out for a light weight guider as well mm SX OAG, loadstar..... $$$$$$$$
All fun which never stops

Hi Rich, Top galaxy image, you've pulled a great deal of the intricate detail out. Go on give that OAG a burl, you'll won't go back

Regards
Keith
