Jupiter 5th Feb from tassie

Collimated the scope to the best it has been around 11:30pm
Got up at 4:30, did the usuals and then ran some more tests on the 900nc emulation.

Tonights summary:
  • 900NC: video taken for 10fps and 20fps with sharpening / picture enhancement both on and off. also took some raw mode for comparison
  • reset the focussing on three moons (already posted)
  • post refocus, one burst at 20fps and more raw mode.
This all happened from 5:30 to after 6am.

The seeing was great, temps were under .5 degree difference.

Below is a quick run through of the 6:06 am vid, raw mode, 316 frames out of 450 stacked and then with wavelets: none, soft, med, hard.

Very happy with this mornings work. more to come later

Probably medium does it best for me so far, but I know you'll have a lot of processing ahead of you.

Is that the 900nc one, or the raw mode?

Hi Dave

Wow - excellent images. The blue festoons and complex swirls in the belt are very clear. Great image scale too. I like the medium and the hard, difficult to make a choice really.

Looking forward to the results of your ToUcam tinkering!

Cheers

Dennis

Whoa DP, this is right up there with the best. The detail is approaching that in Dennis's shot from the day before. Fantastic, and no doubt with a bit of extra processing will be even better.

So those frustrating days have paid off, the seeing came and you were ready!

Onya mate.

No good, the seeing was uniformly bad all through the night. On Saturn it was barely possible to see a hint of cassini division, and I was looking at Jupiter for about 30 minutes before I found the GRS just about to transit...

It's cloudy again today but if it clears then I'll have another go tonight.

Well done David, awasome images! I always like the extra detail that processing brings out, so the far right image with hard processing is my favourite, lot's of intricate detail there to study.

Excellent stuff Dave, much better and Mikee will have to post the dobbers imaging crown down to you. Considering we still have the jetstream overhead there may be better to come. You should send that one in to the mags..

Hi Dave

I had linked message to take a look at this image which I've just seen now...fantastic result! It's great to see so many Aussie amateurs doing great planetary stuff these days and your result is no exception. Well done mate!
